A beautiful days shooting saw shooters in T-Shirts for the first time this season and a perfect day for shooting. Next shoot is the final shoot for the year. The League Table is very tight and it will all come down to the wire for 2nd and 3rd.

A quick apology also for Jon Butler who was inadvertently ranked lower than Steve Dent in the last published results. My apologies!
Doubles next so practice on the range on Sunday will be doubles Practice. See you then. Come along and give it a go. There are at least two shooters on the cards now who this time last year had never shot with the club before and are now beating regular shooters! Maybe I should stick to teaching!!!
EXCELLENT CRAFT FAIR LARGER THIS YEAR
By J. Brock (FINN)
A whopping 650 entries have been displayed at this year’s Falkland Craft Fair, that was held over the weekend of 11 and 12 September 2004. Competitors exhibited in thirteen categories and there was a section for display only as well. In summing up the event, Organiser, Barbara Curtis said it all.
BC: I am sure you all noticed that entries are up again this year. This is brilliant! Long may it continue. The standard, to my eye, is just as high or higher than ever before. Some classes are huge compared to other years, such as the woodwork and rug making. Some classes are not as good but people get busy some times.
Next year is the 20th anniversary of the craft fair so we are hoping for an extra big show, so please, everybody finish all those projects you’ve got hiding in the cupboard.
I would like to say thank-you to the Education Department for letting us use the school and to the very patient judges. If anybody has any complaints on the judging, let the Committee know and we will put you on the list for judging next year. Of course, we thank the exhibitors, as we wouldn’t have a show without them.

The highest bidder for the Acorn’s Quilt was Jill Harris.
Acting Governor, Miss Harriet Hall, gave out the Prizes. She told all those who were gathered:
HH: I would like to say well done to everybody who took part. It is a great Falklands event and I am really pleased to have been invited to give the prizes today. I came yesterday morning and saw the amount of craft work that everyone had done and I am amazed by how much time everyone spent making so many beautiful things. So, even if you didn’t win a prize, this year, I hope everyone will get cracking, dig out the back of those cupboards as Barbara said and start working to make the next one just as good as this. Well done everyone.
ADIEU TO HMS LEEDS CASTLE
By J. Brock (FINN)
Amid Church bells and saluting guns, the HMS LEEDS CASTLE paid her final visit to Stanley on Monday morning. On-lookers gathered at Victory Green and at the War Memorial as well as along the seafront to wave the ship off and to take final photographs.
Moored at FIPASS, the HMS LEEDS CASTLE, assisted by the INDOMNITABLE, left the dock at 1100 and sailed west towards central Stanley, past waiting school children and well wishers. She came to a halt in front of Government House, and then turned east towards the Narrows. Saluting guns were fired when HMS LEEDS CASTLE passed Victory Green and she answered by firing her 20M gun. Then it was time for the bell ringers at Christ Church Cathedral to serenade the vessel.
HMS LEEDS CASTLE will go to South Georgia before bidding so long to the Falklands at the end of the month. She will be replaced by the HMS DUMBARTON CASTLE but won’t be returning to the Falklands as she will be decommissioned and replaced by a more modern vessel.
On behalf of the Welsh branch of the South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA82) I would like to extend, via your publication, our sincere gratitude to the following "Islanders!" for their generous donations to our auction/raffle held at our annual reunion held on September 4 2004 in Cardiff; Terry Peck & Arlette Betts. our members are proud of our part in the history of the Falklands and appreciate that 20 years on that we are still in your thoughts many thanks. Chris Duggan, fundraising coordinator SAMA Wales.

PORT HOWARD TWO-NIGHTER:
Port Howard had a busy weekend with people flocking from both East and West to the two-nighter. In Friday’s Dog Championships Mr. Morrison took first place with Jewell, followed by Tony Hirtle in 2nd and 3rd. (Dogs not listed.) In Saturday’s Dog handling (inaudible, possibly ‘her husband’) moved up from first to second place with Susan Hirtle coming in 3rd and 4th. Susan Hirtle also did well in Saturday’s darts Championship, taking second place to Wayne (inaudible but sounded like Boa) while Karen Lee beat Josie Joshua to take first place in the ladies match. There was, of course, plenty of liquid refreshment and dancing and relaxing after all of that hectic activity.
