RAF CLERK RECEIVES COMMENDATION
SAC Ash Barnett has been awarded a commendation by Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands (CBSAI) for his outstanding work whilst serving as the Unit Chief Clerk at the Joint Service Police Support Unit (JSPSU) at MPA.
SAC Barnett's main responsibility was to ensure that the registry was run in an efficient manner on a day-to-day basis and for someone who had not worked in a police or a tri-service environment before, his assimilation of his duties was swift and impressed his seniors and contemporaries alike. With no task ever being too much effort or beyond his ability, his positive attitude and affable manner enhanced the workplace in more ways than one and his enthusiasm allowed him to tackle a diversity of duties with determination and skill.
The citation recommending SAC Barnett for his award, states, "what SAC Barnett will be remembered for, is his dexterity and enthusiasm in applying himself to a variety of tasks over and above his primary role. Specifically, SAC Barnett was responsible for the physical introduction of the individual photograph pass system that replaced the vehicle pass system, a major task given that there are over 2500 persons included on the new database…. However, it is not SAC Barnett's capacity for work, nor his outstanding efforts within JSPSU that singularly makes his efforts worthy of recognition, it is without doubt his unswerving professionalism. Coupled with his thoroughly good-humoured nature that, whilst making him a pleasure to work with, has also ensured that the unit had functioned effectively from an administrative stance for the duration of his tour. His successor will have a hard act to follow."
Having now completed his four-month tour in the Falkland Islands, SAC Barnett is now heading back to his unit at RAF Conningsby.
