Survey Plane Crashes at Stanley Airport

SURVEY PLANE CRASHES AT STANLEY AIRPORT

By J. Brock (FINN)

At approximately 1520 hrs on Saturday, 29 May 2004, the aircraft surveying for minerals in the Falklands has crash-landed at Stanley Airport in the Falkland Islands.  None of the two onboard were hurt in the incident, which occurred when the nose landing gear failed.  This caused the plane’s propellers to strike the runway.

The Director of Civil Aviation in the Falklands, Mr. Andrew Newman, told FIBS, “Incident and investigation procedures are being carried out by Falkland Islands Civil Aviation Department in conjunction with the operating company, and Brazilian Civil Aviation.”
