The May Ball is a traditional event dating back to Victorian times, when it celebrated Queen
H. E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce crowned both ladies. Before the real dancing began, he made the following remarks:
“I would like to say a word of congratulations to everybody who has participated tonight. I think you have all done wonderfully well and I have a special congratulations to the May Princess, the May Queen and to the Prince Charming and Runner-up. Let me say a word of thanks on behalf of everybody here tonight, for everybody who has organised this event, especially to Phil Middleton and his team, and, for all of you for coming along. Thank you very much indeed”
Organiser, Phil Middleton thanked all the organisers and those who helped on the door and attended. Christine Mitchell made the sashes and Marian Purvis crafted the tiaras. Jan Miller and made up flowers. Phyllis and Rod Tuckwood held weekly dance classes and provided the music for the May Ball. Finally, FIODA should be thanked for providing stage support. 2004 WINTER SHOTGUN SEASON
Round two of the Winter season saw some surprising results this week. The return of the ‘prodigal son’ in Henry Mcleod had him blasting all off the range with a fantastic 46 ex 50 in his first shoot for some time. It was a doubles week this week and with a beautiful day the turn out was excellent. Mick Smith once again dominated the proceedings but fell into second place after Henry’s blistering shoot. Steve Dent returned to old form but lost a couple of easy birds after trapping his hand in the gun! (more worried about bleeding on his new gun than shooting the birds!!). Darren Adams again showed his natural talent placing equal third with Steve. Not a great day for Graham Didlick (29) or Dave Stanley (22), both failed to carry on with previous excellent scores. Newcomer for the week Jon Butler scored a very credible 23 on what is only his third attempt at clays.
