Clarin carries another article today quoting Argentine Interior Minister Anibal Fernandez as confirming Foreign Minister Bielsa’s attempts to get Spanish Government help with negotiations to establish direct flights from Argentina to the Falklands. It says meetings over this have become more frequent over the last few weeks and that the dialogue is going on between the Argentines and British Ambassador Sir Robin Christopher.
La Nacion carries a similar article. This also reports that the authorities in the Province of Chubut have intervened to try to get the flights from Comodoro Rivadavia as they were from 1971 until the war.
Both papers report that the British Embassy in Buenos Aires has confirmed such discussions between Britain and Argentina, but states that the Islanders must approve any decision over such flights.

FIBS NEWS DIRECT: 25 NOVEMBER 2003
FALKLANDS BOOK:
Falkland Islanders were in imminent danger of being massacred by Argentine Soldiers at the end of the 1982 conflict., according to a new book on the war. "6th Infantry Brigade in the Falklands" is written by a former Intelligence Corps Officer who served in the South Atlantic and a Chilean born author living in Australia. That’s Nicholas Van Derveal and and David Alvia. The book quotes Commander Oscar Yofre who was commander of Argentine Land forces during the conflict. He said that after the battle on Sapper Hill, his Operations Officer, Eugeneo Dalton told him that many soldiers were in a strange state and that the Kelpers were bound to get hurt. One 3rd Regiment Platoon had been told to go into the houses by a fanatical Lieutenant, who had ordered the men to kill the Kelpers. General Yofre said that was when he finally realised he had lost control of his men and would have to surrender.
FALKLAND PRINTZ FINALLY MOVES TO STANLEY:
After 15 years at MPA, Falkland Printz has finally moved into Stanley to set up shop next to the Dolphin Guest House in John Street. I asked Norman Clark (NC) why he had made the move.
NC: It’s been a combination of dwindling numbers and the actual expense of running from Stanley to MPA. It’s a standard service of 24-hour turn around together with a one-hour service, two hour, three hour re-prints, enlargements.
SG: Do you do any sort of digital stuff?
NC: No but hopefully this time next year we will be. I have also completed some 300,000 miles of travelling to and fro. I’ve also had some interesting cards from the pot holes on the road saying "miss you. Wish you were here."
SG: But you’re not missing them, presumably.
NC: No.
COURT NEWS:
A 17 year old was fined £200.00 in Youth Court this morning for driving without reasonable consideration. The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted the charge. The Court heard that on October 13th, he had driven at speed past road-works on the Bypass, sending gravel flying towards a PWD team who were working there. One piece of stone grazed the side of Jason Alazia’s face. And, Graham Cripps, prosecuting, said it was only a matter of luck that no one had been more seriously injured.
Senior magistrate, Nick Sanders, told the young man he would have to learn to slow down and drive better or he would soon lose his licence. He also ordered the defendant to pay £70.00 costs.
