Nightingale Island is a holiday spot for Tristanians. When the sea conditions are right and there are no other priorities, they sail their canvass and wool long boasts to that Island.
We approached the island in a mixture of cloud and bright sunshine. The water and the sky made the tour magical.
On some of the cliff faces there were lava caves In one photo, a very spooky pair of eyes makes an appearance.
Rockhopper Penguins and Sub Antarctic Fur Seals could be seen lounging on some of the rocky outcrops and on the hillsides.
Half Way through the tour we were treated to something fruity and lethal from the galley.
Tristanians use sheds for cooking and for shelter when they go to Nightingale Island. The May 21 2001 hurricane damaged them all. However, some of them have been repaired.
