THREE BATTLE ELEMENTS IN AID OF SAMA’82
By J. Brock (FINN)
Matthew Eccles, Sean Moffatt and Zoran Zuvic have spent Liberation Weekend facing snow and bitterly cold winds, whilst bagging the peaks that surround Stanley. The "Liberation Bag the Peaks Expedition" was planned to aid SAMA’82, an organisation for Falklands War Veterans. Peaks that were climbed included Sapper Hill, Mt. William, Mt. Tumbledown, Mt. Harriet, Two Sisters, Mt. Longdon, and Wireless Ridge. The three visited all of the battle memorials on each mountain.
After school on the 13th, the three young men made their way to Sapper Hill, where they set up camp. On the following day, Saturday, 14th, they set up their main Camp at Murrel Bridge. And, from there, they managed to hike to and bag most of the peaks. On the 15th, they yomped to Stanley and visited Mt. Longdon and Wireless Ridge on the way. A gathering of friends and family greeted the young men at the 1982 Battle Memorial when they returned. Terry Peck, the Falklands head of SAMA’82, was also there to greet and thank them.
Efforts paid off as the total raised nears £1,000.00.
