Assistant Operations Manager
The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands is seeking to employ an Assistant Operations Manager.
The position is initially for a two year period beginning in May/June 2003.
The Government’s main sources of income are commercial fishing and tourism. The successful candidate will preferably have experience of both industries and the logistical problems associated with management of remote islands. He/she will be required to have good written and oral skills along with well honed organisational capabilities. The duties will include; involvement in the development of the Government’s environmental policies with specific regard to tourism; direct management of the ship, yacht and expedition tourism industry; organisation of fishery patrols and other forms of surveillance; liaison with a variety of research organisations on fisheries science and environmental projects; day to day financial management and answering enquiries from the public. The work is varied, interesting and demanding.
Applicants should be well qualified and be able to demonstrate several years of useful experience.
Knowledge of South Georgia would be an obvious advantage.
The salary will be in the range of c. £22K to £28K dependent on qualification and experience.
