Looks as though I may be the first one on here. Hello to all the family in the Islands, hope everyone is well.

Looks like I might be the second! I am pleased to see this back, it was a great way to follow some events. Iwas in the Islands from Jan 74 @till late 76 and really miss them at times. I was able to bring the family to visit in Dec. 92 and they also fell in love with the place. I would like to come back again but the cost is now a bit of a barrier.?

Every few days now there is something about the islands in the tv news and press here in Scotland. I would like to say that lots of people have you in their thoughts at this poignant time for many. ?

Hi there everybody! I like the new design of this site. Much better than the old one.? '...at this poignant time..." comment: Perhaps you might like to join me in a bid to have the BBC show more of their back catalogue of films and documentaries in view of the 20th Anniversary. My particular fave was "An Ungentlemanly Act" which I am desperate for the BBC to release on dvd, there must be quite a few of us out here who would happily part with hard cash to own it!
The Mad-Sheep site is also undergoing a bit of a redesign to incorporate some new photos and things as well. Shameful plug I know, but have a look at www.mad-sheep.co.uk.
More soon,
Phil

David Ward (Info) (Edit) (Quote) 4/3/2002, 9:31:32 AM

Hi everybody,

First, this format is a big improvement on the old one, congratulations to all involved in its' creation.

The old site was "down" for a long time before this one replaced it. I assumed this was because it was taking time to include all the existing posts, consequently, I am disappointed to find all the old material vanished.

I realise lots of work and effort must be involved in maintaining things like this, but still, I feel it is a shame that all the "old" stuff is missing.

Cheers,

David.

p.s. Note for the Moderator: I think It would be "nice" if new posts were inserted at the top of the list rather than added to the bottom.

David Ward (Info) (Edit) (Quote) 4/3/2002, 9:37:59 AM

Me again,

Further to my p.s. actually it looks like the order of insertion in the list may have originally been intended as newest-at-the-top, becuase, I have just noticed that in this topic "Jacki Middleton" is quoted as the most recent post, when in fact, she was first!

Cheers,

David,

I would like to say how much we are all thinking of you all at present and I know I say this on behalf of all who were present in 1982. This is a special time for all and we all wish you well.
Many of us hope that we will be able to travel back in the not too distant future as we feel we do need to come back and all have our own reasons for wanting this.
I am at present heading up a campaign to save what was arguably the most imprortant ship of the War HMS Fearless, without her and her sister ship I doubt that we would have had the capability to do what we did.
The aim in saving her is to save a great ship and turn her into a dedicated museum all about the Falklands and the War. I would appreciate any support any one would offer even just in words. The web site is www.hmsfearless.co.uk an address and telephone number is on the site.
Thank you

We sat down for a while when we came ashore
Was this what we have come so far to fight for
This bleak and desolate piece of land

Then an Islander held out her hand
Her smile so wide a tear in her eye
Now I knew the reason why!

We gave of body and of soul
We would reach the final goal
So many friends and comrades we left behind

For many this still plays on the mind
20 years on time again to say goodbye
not now the Islander with a tear in the eye

Grown men they say should not cry

DavidNZ (Info) (Edit) (Quote) 4/11/2002, 4:01:36 AM

Hello, everyone
I'm David Whitehead from New Zealand (originally from UK). I don't see any other comment on this forum from this part of the world!
This forum seems to be a really nice format, but I do agree with David ward (above) that it would be an improvement if new postings were at the TOP.
We had a lady from the Falklands on a radio programme here in NZ the other day - whose name I unfortunately didn't note - talking about your fascinating country, and I thought that I'd do a Google search to see what's on the Net. (isn't Google great?). And amongst lots of other things I found this forum!
It stikes me that, being so isolated - just like we are in NZ - communication globally for family, business and educational purposes is a major issue
Fortunately tools like this forum on the Internet are really addressing this issue.
I've JUST come across another tool which allows me to talk with anyone in the world over the Internet, for no cost. I don't know what phone communications cost you in the Falklands, but it's VERY expensive for ME to phone YOU!! (about 90 pence a minute on-peak)
Sure, I've used things like Paltalk, Yahoo, MSN voice rooms for a while, but they are really very limited.
If anyone over there in the Falklands - or in Scotland, Argentine, wherever, would like to join me in my NEW(!!) Conference Room, which will accept up to 50 people at one time, we can all have a chat about whatever we may feel inclined.
Let's have some fun!
If you would like to do this, please send me an e-mail at
[email protected]
with a suggestion about a suitable day/time (after Monday next week - Apr 15 - as I'm away for the weekend).
I'll reply to every one of the avalanche of replies that I shall get!!
NOW! About this TIME thing!
I understand that the Falklands is 4 hrs ahead of GMT (it says on your website), but that you also have Summer Time (Daylight Saving) Sept to April. It's still April, so are you still on Summer time? If so, when do you go to Standard Time?
We, in NZ, are 12 hrs ahead of GMT, having just come off Summer Time (which is Daylight Saving to us).
So, when suggesting a time to have an Internet chat, please let me know what your time is relative to GMT, but it looks as if a generally sensible time range will be (for you in the Falklands) 6 PM to 10 PM - which will be 10 AM to 2 PM for me in NZ the NEXT DAY - give or take an hour depending whether you are on Summer Time! confused? I'm sure we can get over it!!!!!
When I get your e-mail, I'll send you a link which you'll just click on and follow some simple instructions - which will take less than a minute, generally. You will be able to forward this link to anyone whom you may like yo join us.
REQUIRED - 32 meg RAM, 56K Modem (though it will probably work on 28K), speakers, microphone (but if you don't have one you can listen, and type in text messages too) or a mic/headphone headset.
Really look forward to exchanging info/news with you

David
